Day 1: Starting your journey from Haridwar +

Distance between Delhi & Haridwar: 239 km (6-7 hours)

A Warm Welcome from Travel Acharya to Golden Agers embarking with us to the holy chronicles of Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
Beginning your journey from Delhi or other cities, you have three travel options. Either we will pick you from Delhi to Haridwar through Delhi-Patna Expressway or NH334 in travelling transport. Secondly, you can take a train from Delhi Junction to Haridwar railway Station which might take 3-6 hours approximately to arrive at Haridwar. Lastly, you can travel by air by direct flights to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. If you wish you can spend some time in Haridwar or we will directly pick you for Dehradun to Barkot.
Arriving at Haridwar, you will be taken to a cozy stay where you need to check in and keep your belongings. Have your nutritious meal and you can go to attend Ganga Arti at Har Ki Pauri. Also, visit religious sites like Mansa devi Temple, Bilvkeshwar Mahadev, Shanti Kunj, and other destinations. After you have explored the city, you can go back to your room and rest for the next day.

Day 2: Drive from Haridwar to Barkot +

Distance between Haridwar & Barkot: 175.2 km (5 hour 22 min)

On day 2, you will be driving towards the next destination, Barkot, a serene hilly place and stopover for the first pilgrimage site, Yamunotri Dham. When you are done with your breakfast, you will leave Haridwar for Bakot with our driver. The 6 hours drive through the scenic Himalayan ranges makes your road trip worthy. When you arrive at your hotel in Barkot, check-in and keep your luggage. Relax for sometime and enjoy the meal by hotel. If you wish you can take a tour of Barkot, exploring markets and culture. Return to your room for dinner and take a good sleep as we will be travelling for our first dham Yamunotri.

Day 3: 1st Dham: Yamunotri and Back to Barkot +

Distance between Barkot & Yamunotri: 45.6 km (1 hour)

On the third day of your tour, we will seek darshan of Maa Yamuna in Yamunotri Dham. Leaving Barkot after your morning nourishment, take your things that will be helpful for the 6 km trek in the Dham. You will be driving towards Jankichatti (6 m away from the main temple) on Bandar Poonch, which is the trek base for Yamunotri. When you arrive at Jankichatti, there are mules, ponies, palkis and pithus in which senior devotees can easily travel to the temple. These services are highly recommended according to your physical constraints and a 6 km trek is moderate and tiring due to upward slopes, if you walk it will take your time and body energy.
When you reach the temple, you will see Divya Dhila at the entrance of the temple and also, do darshan of Yamuna Mata. VIP passes are there but their availability depends on the devotees crowd in the peak season. There is a hot water spring in the temple where devotees bathe or cook rice or potato as prasad. After darshan you have to trek the same way you have travelled from Jankichatti. At Jankichatti, our driver will be waiting to pick you up and drop you back to your hotel in Barkot.

Day 4: Driving from Barkot to Uttarkashi +

Distance Between Barkot & Uttarkashi: 82 km (more than 2 hours)

Now you will be travelling towards the second pilgrimage stopover, Uttarkashi from where we will go to Gangotri Dham. After the morning meal, take your belongings and our driver will take you to Uttarkashi, also known as North Kashi. Travelling through the green hills, you will reach your accommodation in Uttarkashi where you need to check in first. Have your meal and relax for sometime. If you wish you can visit the Vishwanath Temple, which resembles Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, Shakti temple and Kuteti Devi Mandir. Explore the city, local markets and take a visit to nearby spots. After exploring Uttarkashi, you can have your dinner and sleep in your room.

Day 5: Second Dham: Gangotri and Driving Back to Uttarkashi +

Distance between Uttarkashi & Gangotri: 97.6 km (approximately 3 hours)

On the fifth day, we will drive towards Gangotri Dham, the second pilgrimage site of the Char Dham Yatra. Starting from Uttarkashi, when you have finished your breakfast, the driver will take you to Gangotri. Situated on the banks of Bhagirathi River, the source and the origin of River Ganga from Gaumukh Glacier. Your 3 hours drive will pass through the verdant Harsil Valley where you can visit after darshan. The driver will drop you at 0.5 km from the temple as vehicles are not allowed due to the narrow lane. There is wheelchair service for senior citizens to the temple for which a nominal fee of around Rs. 200-500 has to be given. You can also walk to the temple if you are able to. When you reach you can see the temple of Ganga Mata. If there is a normal crowd you can get VIP darshan, otherwise you have to get in line of devotees. After darshan of Ganga Temple and other adjoining shrines, you can go to the puja counter for personal special puja by local purohits by paying nominal fees. After darshan, shopping at local stalls, food, and touring the dham, you can go back to the entry place where our driver has dropped you. The driver will pick you from the spot and will halt for sometime at Harsil Valley where you can experience nature’s beauty and take photographs.
At the end of the day, you will be dropped at a hotel in Uttarkashi, where you will have your meal and sound sleep.

Day 6: Next Stop: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi +

Distance between Uttarkashi & Guptkashi: 185 km (approximately 6 hours)

Next morning, have your breakfast and pack your belongings as we will leave for our next stopover Guptkashi. The hidden city of Guptkashi, is the routeway to Kedarnath Dham. The city itself has legends related to Lord Shiva, where Shiva hid himself in the form of a bull to avoid Pandavas who were seeking forgiveness after the Kurukshetra war. You will be taken to Guptkashi’s hotel and you need to check into your room. Relax in your room and you can take a tour of Guptkashi by visiting ancient temples. After taking a city tour, return back to your hotel and have your meal. Stay overnight and be ready as tomorrow we will head to Kedarnath Dham.

Day 7: Third Dham: Guptkashi to Kedarnath +

Guptkashi to Kedarnath: 30 km+16 km trek (3 hours)

On the day 7, we will leave for Kedarnath Yatra, the abode place of Lord Shiva and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Pack all the essentials like warm clothes, light food, medicines, water for hydration and other essential things that might be required for the 16 km Kedarnath trek. After morning nourishment, you will leave for Sonprayag, which passes through holy confluences like rudraprayag, devprayag and karnaprayag. On arriving at Sonprayag, you have to take a jeep that goes to Gaurikund, the trek base for Kedarnath Yatra. You can seek darshan of the holy temple at Gaurikund, including the holy hot spring. In Gaurikund, the seniors will get services like ponies, palkis and pithus. You have to hire this service on your own and start your trek along the Mandakini river.
Other option available is helicopter service from Phata or Guptkashi to Kedarnath helipad which is 0.5 km from the temple. The helicopter journey will take around 20-40 minutes.
When you arrive at Kedarnath, you can seek darshan of Baba Kedar and take blessings of sacred jyotirlinga, the hump of Shiva’s bull form. After darshan you have to stay overnight at the dham. Many accommodations at a cheap rate are available for one night stay. Keep your bags in the room and experience the sacredness of the dham. Indulge in spiritual activities like puja, meditation or jaap. Shop at local stalls, eat local savouries, and attend the evening aarti of Lord Kedarnath. Have a blissful stay in the beauty of Kedar mountains where Lord Shiva is master of all beings.

Day 8: Kedarnath to Guptkashi +

Distance between Kedarnath & Guptkashi: 30 km+16 km trek (3 hours)

On day 8, finally you have to leave Kedarnath Dham and return back to Guptkashi. When done with morning aarti and darshan, you have to trek back from the same route on mule or palki to Gaurikund. This will take around 3-4 hours. When you arrive at Gaurikund, jeeps are available to take you back to Sonprayag. Our driver will be waiting for your arrival at Sonprayag. He will pick you and you will be passing through holy confluences like Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Devprayag, where our driver will stop for sometime and you seek darshan. Also, Srinagar city arrives in between where you can stop for a few minutes and see the town culture. When you arrive at Guptkashi, have your meal, relax and sleep for the next day's excursion.

Day 9: Guptkashi to Joshimath +

Distance between Guptkashi & Joshimath: 154 km (4-5 hours)

Moving to the next destination, for last dham we will be going to Joshimath. The city of Sri Adi Shankaracharya, the place is known for Hindu institutions, temples like Narsingh Temple and mathas. Leaving Guptkashi when you have finished breakfast, you will be driven towards the alpine hilly region where Joshimath is situated. After the scenic drive, you will arrive at Joshimath and check into your hotel room. Eat your meal and relax after a tiring drive. In your free time you can walk on nearby streets or discover the math and Hindu Temples. After you have wandered the city, return back to your room and sleep for the following day tour.

Day 10: Joshimath to Badrinath Dham and Return to Joshimath +

Distance between Joshimath & Badrinath: 41 km (2 hours)

On Day 10, you will be departing from Joshimath for the last pilgrimage site of Char Dham Tour, Badrinath. The Lord Badrinath also, called Badrinarayan is Vishnu in the meditated form who is there to bless his devotees. The name came from the majority of Badri trees (a wildberry) in this region. When you are done with your morning meal, you have to travel with our driver to this enchanting place. On arrival you can see the temple clearly, made with Nagara style architecture. You can seek darshan with a VIP pass, if available. Take a holy dip at Tapt Kund (hot spring) and then seek darshan of Badrinarayan. After darshan, you can explore the town and also visit Mana village which is 8 minutes away from the temple. If you are done with your darshan, shopping and exploration, the driver will drop you back to your hotel at Joshimath. Here we have completed our Char Dham Tour in Uttarakhand. Relax in your hotel room and stay overnight as tomorrow we will go back to Haridwar.

Day 11: Joshimath to Haridwar +

Distance between Joshimath & Haridwar: 227 km (8 hours)

Approaching the tour end, it's time to leave Joshimath for Haridwar where we started our Char Dham journey. Pack your backs, have breakfast and hop into the vehicle as we will be driven through the alpine mountains, down steep towards Haridwar. After an 8 hours drive, you will drop back to your accommodation in Haridwar, where you can relax and have a meal. If you wish you can participate in serene Ganga aarti and visit religious sites, otherwise you can walk down the streets. Go back to your hotel and have your dinner at the hotel as you have to stay overnight.

Day 12: Departure from Haridwar to Your City +

Successfully, we have completed our Char Dham Yatra with hassle-free itineraries and seamless darshan to all four pilgrimage sites. Finally, you will be going back home from Haridwar. Our driver will drop the senior devotees who have come from Delhi or from other departure locations like Haridwar Railway Station or Jolly Grant Airport(Dehradun). How to Travel for Char Dham Yatra?

Roadways

Distance: 239.8 km(3-4 hours) 

Beginning your journey from Delhi or another major city, you can travel by state bus or travel car via Delhi-Panipat Expressway, NH 709AD & NH334.

Delhi →Sonipat →Shamli →Muzaffarnagar →Roorkee →Haridwar

Another route you can take from Delhi-Haridwar road is 246.6 km and takes more than 4 hours.

Delhi →Ghaziabad →Modinagar →Muzaffarnagar →Roorkee →Haridwar

Haridwar is a holy gateway to many pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. People also visit Haridwar to seek darshan of Ganga Mata and many religious sites like Har ki Pauri, Bharat Mata Mandir, Shri Bilvkeshwar Mahadev Temple, and others. 

Railway

Rail Distance: 235 km(3 hrs 25 mins) by Vande Bharat and other trains may take 7 hours approximately to cover 250 km.

The nearest railway station to Haridwar is Haridwar Railway Station. The train journey is faster and more convenient than a road trip. There are two options, either travel from New Delhi or Old Delhi to Haridwar. Various trains from Delhi run for Haridwar such as Vande Bharat, Dehradun Shatabdi Express, Haridwar SF Express and others.

The rail journey approximately takes 6 hours to reach other travelling through station stops. From Haridwar, we will begin our journey to four pilgrimage sites through a road trip.

Airways

Aerial Distance: 208 km(45 mins to 1 hr approx.)

Another fastest means to travel for Char Dham is to take a direct flight from Delhi to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. From Dehradun you will be directly driven to your accommodation in Barkot.

Seniors travelling from other cities can reach Delhi Airport and then take a 1 hour cab drive to Haridwar.

Helicopter Services are available if you want to skip trek or directly visit to the Char Dham.

For senior citizens, you can get nutritious and digestible options in Uttarakhand.There are various cuisines you must try that are light on stomach and heavy in taste. Pahadi food has herbs and nutrition which is good for your body. Seniors can have smaller portions of food that is chewable, have moderate salt and sugar. Dals and khichdi in Uttarakhand are very famous as they are unique with Pahadi touch. Here are some cuisine, you can go for When you reach Devbhoomi:

  • Khichdi is a light digestive option for senior citizens. In Uttarakhand, there are many types of Khichdi to try like Garhwali Til Khichdi, Ginjudu and Kali Dal ki Khichdi.
  • Siddu is a wheat flour fermented bread filled with walnuts, pudina, herbs and peas that is steamed and served hot. 
  • Aloo Ke Gutke is a dry Pahari potato snack or side dish with tadka made by mixing spices like cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chillies, salt, coriander, etc. 
  • Mandua(Ragi) Ki Roti is a chapati, flatbread or tortilla made with Ragi or finger millet, often served with cooked vegetables or chutney.
  • Chainsoo is a lentil made of whole urad dal or black urad dal with the tadka of cumin seeds, garlic, red chillies, coriander, bay leaf, kalonji and Pahari spices.
  • Kumaoni Raita is a fusion of spices, cucumber, mustard seeds, turmeric and tadka in mustard oil spilled over fresh curd.
  • Phaanu is made from gahat ki dal, a soaked horse-gram lentil mixed with Pahari spices, and eaten with rice.
  • Kumaoni Bhatt ki Churkani is a dish made with soyabeans blended with curd and tomatoes giving it a tangy flavour.

Uttarakhandi Sweets 

  • Bal Mithai is a chocolate-fudge-like sweet made with roasted Khoya(made with milk) in brown colour and covered with white poppy seeds.
  • Singori is a Kumaon sweet dish similar to Kalakhand, made with Khoya and wrapped with Maalu leaf.
  • Jhangora Ki Kheer is a sweet dessert made with Jhangora(bajra or barnyard millet), milk and dry nuts like almonds, cashew nuts, and raisins.
  • Arsa is a traditional Pahari dish made with rice flour and then cooked in mustard oil. 
  • Gulgule is a special snack made from jaggery water and wheat flour kneaded with it. Then it is fried in oil and also is given as offerings to the deities.
  • Pahadi Cookie Roat is a healthy cookie made with wheat, semolina or suji and jaggery cooked in desi ghee. It is used as offering to the deities, especially Baba Balaknath Ji as prasad and paina as gift for sasural by the bridal.

Things to Pack For Trip

Before starting your journey, you must know what you should pack for the yatra. Uttarakhand has cooler weather that might be challenging for older people.
