Cultural and Historical Significance  of Kedarnath dham 

Kedarnath dham, is one of the Hindu pilgrimages of chardham yatra, as well as the first religious site of Panch Kedar. Gangotri is one of the well known chardham sites in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The river Ganga is worshipped in Gangotri. From Himalayan mountains the terminus of Gangotri glacier to Bhagirathi and then Bhagirathi meet up with Alaknanda river to form Ganga in Gangotri. The Gangotri temple was made in the 18th century by Gorkha general Amar singh Thapa. In Gangotri temple Lord shiva is being offered by Gangotri water brought by priests of temples.
It is said that King Bhagirath did penance for several years to Bring Ganga to come down on earth from Heaven. And the flow of the river was so fast that Lord Shiva released the Mighty river on earth from his hair Locks to slow the flow.
