It is said that the temple is built at a particular spot where the idol of Goddess Durga was found by a shepherd, after being directed by Goddess herself in his dream. As its name says ‘Chau’ means four and ‘batia’ means path, it is the inter-linking point of four cities that are Sitlakhet, Bhargaon, Pilkholi, and Dehrti.
