Best Way to Travel from Ahmedabad to Kedarnath

Distance from Ahmedabad to Kedarnath: 1,430 km + trek journey

Duration of the Journey: 1 day, approx, including traffic

Road Journey:  The scenic 19-hour road trip from Ahmedabad to Haridwar is 1,146 km via NH48 by a private traveller, GSRTC bus or car. From Haridwar, take a UTC bus or hire a car for Sonprayag or Gaurikund. It is the trek base for Kedarnath Dham, where a 16 km trail to the temple begins. The pony/horse ride and palki(palanquin) services are available for people with physical issues or senior citizens.

Railway: Trains like Vande Bharat and Yoga Express run from Ahmedabad Junction to Haridwar. After arriving in Haridwar, take a bus or a cab to Sonprayag and then reach Gaurikund by road. Then trek to the Kedarnath shrine.

Airway: To reach it faster, take a flight from Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. By bus or cab, reach Sonprayag via Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar and Rudraprayag and travel to Gaurikund.

If you can’t trek or want to reach Kedarnath faster, you can choose helicopter services from Phata, Sirsu or Guptkashi. This service has to be booked in advance; otherwise, it can also be cancelled due to weather conditions or the availability during peak season.

The best means of transportation to reach Kedarnath is by train. Opting for a train journey comes with benefits such as comfort while travelling, fitting in the budget, being faster than a road vehicle, and enjoying the changing views from a train window.
