4 Nights and 5 Days
Kedarnath Dham
During this Kedarnath Dham Yatra, you will stay in Guptkashi. So basically it is gonna be your intermediate destination. Hence we are sharing some of the places in Guptkashi that you can see.
Shri Vishwanath Temple Guptkashi
The most famous spot of Guptkashi is the Vishwanath Temple. Almost all the pilgrims going to Kedarnath include this temple of Lord Shiva in their tour Itinerary. On the evening of Day 2 or Day 3, you can decide to go and visit this nearby famous temple. Because it is pretty famous in that region, that road is also known by the name Vishwanath Temple Road.
Vidhya Dham Ashram
As the name reveals, this is an Ashram targeting Vedic Studies. The residents say that this Ashram is an abode of Vedic learning. Besides this, there is a temple of Lord Shiva and Gaura Ji inside the Ashram. Many saints live in this ashram and contribute to making this place more spiritual and lively.
Maa Kali Temple
Another temple of Guptkashi that you can visit is Maa Kali Temple. This abode of feminine Goddess energy is located on the Jaakhdar Bansu Road. Fortunately, if you are in this Himalayan town, then walk on the mentioned path to the temple and get the Darshan of Maa Kali.
Kedarnath is highly elevated and is completely circled by snow-clad mountains from all sides. Therefore we often observe frequent changes in its temperature.
In summers: Having not faced that fierce heat in Kedarnath, the maximum temperature goes up to 17°- 19°C. And so the climate remains delightful. In summer, the views become clear and the greenery of the Himalayas overshadows the artificial fancy of the Cities.
In winters: Winter in Kedarnath exists for more than 6 months, starting from October to April. Most of the Tourists come here to enjoy the snowfall and hence prefer traveling in Winter. At times, the temperature goes beyond zero and extreme cold arrives. Due to heavy unpredictable snowfall, the common route to the pilgrimage site Kedarnath becomes inaccessible. Therefore his idol is taken downwards in another low-elevated town Ukhimath to worship.
In monsoon: There is no fixed season for rainfall in Kedarnath and its vicinity. They occur anytime but during the Indian Monsoon, the risks grow higher as many Landslides and other natural threats happen. Due to heavy rainfall, the pathway also becomes slippery.
Kedarnath is open for 6 months a year due to intense colds for the rest of the year. During those 6 months, the best time to visit the shrine is from September to November. The weather remains pleasant and the risk becomes moderate or even less. But because of that Kedarnath gets highly cramped with the devotees and one has to wait in long queues.
During Summer, when the day temperature remains 18°-19°C, the journey becomes easily accessible and convenient. For old-age travelers, monsoons may prove a little less friendly and more unstable as well. Also, the clouds obstruct the Himalayan beauty, and many scenic charms of the mountains and the valley get missed.
For the current year 2024, the opening dates for the Kedarnath Dham temple were decided on 10th May, on the prosperous day of Akshay Tritiya 2024. The reservations for the season have already been made in the prior by the travelers to avoid any sort of sudden emergency that may come in booking accommodations or any other extra planning. The announcement for the opening dates of the Kedarnath Dham was made by the temple committee on the occasion of Mahashivratri along with the other three Dhams.
Keeping utmost winter in mind, the temple complex decided to close the sanctum on Kartik Purnima’s eve.
