During the pre-independence period, there was a Britisher named John Harold Abbott. He visited the hill station and fell so in love with the serenity of this place that he built 13 cottages in this part of Champawat and decided to name it after his name. This is how the Abbott Mount was discovered by him and also named after him.

There once used to be a hospital in Abbott Mount. According to the village people, there were some unusual activities going on within that hospital. There was a doctor, Dr. Morris, who used to perform terrible experiments inside the hospital premises. Weighting souls and opening real human brains, his actions became the reason due to which the hospital was closed forever.
