Chaukori is a tranquil hill station located in the district of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, india. Perched at an elevation of 2010 meters above sea level, it gives a panoramic view of wide Himalayan mountains like Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, and Panchachuli group. The entire region is covered with tea gardens and fruit orchards making Chaukori a breathtaking beauty. Chaukori is well known for its mesmerizing view of sunrises and sunsets from the peak and plenty of temples which are worth visiting to. The tea gardens here were established by the Britishers for the cultivation of tea as the high- altitude ambience was suitable for it. Best time to visit chaukori

Even though the suitable time to visit Chaukori depends on visitors’ choice of experience, Summer (March-June) is the best time to visit there as the weather is cool and pleasant with clear skies and amazing views of the Himalayan range. It is also an ideal time for adventure activities.

Autumn (September-November) offers vibrant and colorful surroundings with a serene and peaceful environment. Visitors who prefer less crowded places with moderate temperatures can visit Chaukori during this time.

Winter (December-February) is a perfect time to visit Chaukori if you want to experience beautiful snow covered peaks and snow all over the region. The weather is quite chilly during this time and winter sports like snow gliding and skiing are also accessible. 

However, Chaukori looks beautiful during Monsoon (July-August), but visitors are recommended to avoid the place at this time due to the risk of landslides and slippery mountain roads caused by heavy rainfall.

Places to Visit in Chaukori

• Tea Gardens – Chaukori is one of those few regions in Kumaon where you can get to see luscious fresh tea gardens spreading its aroma all around. These gardens were established before the Independence period. Berinag, which is around 10 kms away from Chaukori, is quite famous for its vast tea gardens. Here you can get an insight of the tea cultivation process. Berinag can give you the experience of both authenticity and culture. 
• Hanging Rocks – It is a relaxed and calm walking trail for every age group. A walk of 1 km through dense oaks, beautiful grasslands, and tea bushes that ends up with a breathtaking view of valleys and snow covered Himalayan mountains which is enough to make you forget the chaos of the world. Hanging rocks is a perfect spot for nature photographers.
• Patal Bhuvaneshwar – Located at a distance of approx 37 kms from Chaukori, Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a small village in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave temple here is one of the most exciting experiences of the Chaukori trip. This limestone cave is settled at a height of 1350 meters above sea level. The 160 meters long and 90 ft deep is said to be the spot where Pandava brothers spent some of their time during the exile. Each step leads to one cave after another unbottling deep secrets from the past. Patal Bhuvaneshwari is one of the most famous place to visit near Chaukori.
• Arjuneshwar Shiva Temple – Arjuneshwar Shiva Temple is a holy site situated in the peaceful town of Berinag. It was built by a Pandava brother Arjuna, and it is believed that Arjuna meditated here so that Lord Shiva granted him with his blessings, therefore the temple was named after him. The surroundings of the temple offer amazing spots to explore such as famous tea gardens and snake temples. Arjuneshwar Shiva Temple is a perfect combination of nature, spirituality, and culture. 
• Nag Mandir – Nag Mandir is one of the popular temples of village Berinag of Uttarakhand state. This temple is dedicated to Nag Devata and on the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami every year milk is offered in the temple. Even though there are many snake temples in Berinag region, this temple holds a great religious significance among the locals and is one of the famous pilgrimage sites of Chaukori.
• Dharamghar – Dharamgarh, located at a distance of 9 kms from Chaukori is one of the main attractions of Chaukori because of its serene atmosphere and picturesque view of snowy mountains of Nanda Devi and Panchachuli. It is said that Sarla Behen, Mahatma Gandhi’s Disciple has abided by her last day here. 
• Munsiyari – Munsiyari is a tiny village in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand and the distance between Chaukori to Munsiyari is about 94 kms which can be easily covered by road during the Chaukori trip. It is one of the popular trekking points and a mesmerizing natural beauty of Uttarakhand which makes it a must visit place during this trip.
• Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary – Visitors are recommended to cover the distance of 90 kms from Chaukori to Binsar and land up at one of the most fascinating places of Uttarakhand, Binsar wildlife sanctuary. This place is a delight for all the adventure and nature lovers where they get to witness various species of birds and a variety of animals. It is a place worth visiting for nature photographers and wildlife admirers.
• Sunset point – Chaukori sightseeing is incomplete without experiencing the beauty of sunsets and sunrise at this point. The view of the sun setting down behind the huge Himalayan range is breathtaking and offers visitors a surreal feeling amidst the beauty of nature. 
• Gangolihat – This small town is situated in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand and is around 36 kms away from Chaukori. Gangolihat is well known for underground caves and Shakti Peethas. Chamunda Mandir, Vaishnavi Mandir, Ambika Dewaal, and Haat Kalika are some of the popular old age temples here and hold great significance. Visitors can see the clear picture of Himalayas from Vaishnavi Mandir based on a mountain called Shail Parvat.

How to Reach Chaukori

• By Road

Many major cities of Uttarakhand are linked to Chaukori by road, so you can hire a taxi or take a regular bus from places like Pithoragarh, Nainital, Almora, etc to reach Chaukori. You can rent a car from Delhi which is approx 485-490 kms from Chaukori. 

• By Train

Kathgodam, which is around 180 kms away is the closest railway station for Chaukori. It is well connected with many cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, etc. After reaching Kathgodam, you can hire a cab to reach your destination.

• By Air

To reach Chaukori via flight, Pantnagar airport is the appropriate option as it is only 205 kms away from Chaukori. Delhi also has flights connected to Pantnagar airport on a regular basis. You can take a cab from the terminal to reach Chaukori. It is advisable to book your conveyance in advance to avoid any delay as taxis may not always be available.
